Note #2: In a letter to my father, Charles C. Veale I, Minnie J. Mc Crary, who is the daughter of Francis Veale, and the grand daughter of William A. Veale wrote: “Nancy was left in the Old Washington Cemetery as she had died of smallpox, and that Lucinda had been moved to Oak Grove Cemetery and is in Section J
Note #3: HERE IS THE REAL SKINNY. In late 1930 and 1931, as a depression job for food only, the Odd Fellows Lodge hired my father and Donald McLemore to move graves from the area across the road from Oak Grove Cemetery, mostly to Section J, or with other family members, if known. In this work process, they unearthed the coffins of Lucinda Veale and she was placed into Section J at this time. Nancy Ann’s coffin was found here also. Both coffins had copper plates on the lids with the names engraved on them. Nancy Ann’s had a second plate in large letters “SMALLPOX”. This coffin was burned and placed into Section Q, which is normally used as an unknown section. The clincher in this factor: Donald McLemore’s daughter, Patty, born March 08, 1931, and I born March 09, 1931, next door neighbors. Both Patty and I were born with smallpox. This smallpox illness was recorded by the State of Indiana Health Department records. While in the military, I had to prove this point to get the military off my back. They insisted that I must have smallpox vaccinations, and these would not take, as I had natural protection from the illness itself. Confirmed (RLV)
